What Is Your Superpower?
Have you been searching for a way to increase sales to increase profit to turn your business from what it is into what you would always hoped it would be? Are you at a point where you’re feeling stuck? Things aren’t going quite as you’d planned. When you look around, you see others in a similar position. Unlike you, they are beating the odds, growing and making more and more money. If they can do it, why can’t you?
You’ve read the iconic books that everyone recommends — like the Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes, or Clockwork: Design Your Business to Run Itself by Mike Michalowiczwerk, or one of the many the other quintessential books that speak to what it takes to grow a profitable business. However, nothing is working.
The challenge with all these books is that they assume that you’re in a vacuum. They also assume that you can adopt the techniques 100 percent uniformly. Another assumption is that you know exactly what is preventing growth.
The simple truth of the matter is that if you knew what was causing a roadblock, then you wouldn’t have a problem in your business. You would be in a different place. You would be more successful. You would be where you hope to be, not where you are right now. However, that is not the case. The challenge of running a business is that it is a lonely road. It is fraught with obstacles that no one can foresee.
Do Customers Know Your Value?
When you opened your business, you thought you’d hang a shingle, spend the weekend putting up a website, and then customers would pour in. You truly believed that they would recognize the value of what you offer and would just show up.
You can’t understand why customers do not see the value of what you offer. Most of the marketing and sales content tells our story from our perspective. Therefore, customers need to have a vivid imagination to draw conclusions that are not spoken and are not obvious. So, if you don’t explicitly state your value, they will not know.
Sure, the people you know, love, care about and are in your network know that you have something great to offer. Your family, friends, business partners all want to help you. They want to raise awareness. They want to pass business your way. They want to give you an edge, but they don’t know how to help you. However, they can’t get customers to see your value. That’s why marketers often tell people to leave their families out of the equation.
So, how can you show customers your value? It’s hard enough for us to see our own value let alone expect others to see it. But, if you don’t know your own value, then your customers won’t either.
It took me two coaches, a therapist, a psychiatrist, a very persistent wife, and a group of business owners who I love dearly before I understood the value that I bring to others. My value or Superpower, as I like to call it, is helping companies in the United States grow and succeed. Even though I had spent the last 20 years of my life doing this, it was still hard for me to see what I brought to the table. Now, think about the typical customer — if your value is not explicitly obvious to you, then how they will know what it is?
What Is Your Superpower?
For the past 20 years, I’ve worked with solopreneurs, startups, multi-generational family businesses, manufacturers, and retailers. Many of these companies needed help because it was critical to the success of their company. If they did not turn things around, they were looking at a bleak future.
The simple fact is that they had a solid foundation, but they were stuck. They couldn’t see what wasn’t overly apparent. They were in the bottle and thus couldn’t see the label. They asked me to step in and help them figure out how to sell faster and at a better profit.
They recognized that to grow, they couldn’t keep trying to do it on their own. They were done listening to all those talking heads, buying book after book, and studying course after course. They were exhausted and frustrated from trying to figure out the right recipe, and why it wasn’t working for them. So, they asked me to help.
I didn’t understand it for many years, but it turns out that my gift is the ability to look at a very, very complex situation and help business owners see their blind spots. I help them uncover things that if they do — and do them well — then they will have an amazing company that they love, and will be worth a fortune when they want to sell it.
I help my clients see around corners and make great decisions for their business, both in the long term and now. I help them steer their business towards where they need to be. For some, that’s just about getting back on their feet and being profitable once again. For others, it’s about learning how to put customers first. For some, it’s about positioning.
My special superpower is helping companies succeed in the face of overwhelming challenges. It is to give business owners their dream back. Don’t mistake this as suggesting that I am in any way responsible for their hard work. In fact, I’m simply the guide. I’m not the one who built their business. I’m not the one who’s selling their goods or services. I’m not the one who’s marketing their business. I’m their ally.
Even though I’ve helped many people achieve multi-generational wealth for a very long time, it’s only been in the past couple of years that I’ve had the courage to stand up and say, “I’m good at what I do.”
I didn’t understand it but virtually every business leader struggles with seeing their blind spots. My gift was elusive to me for a very long time.
So, what is your Superpower? The world is a big place. There are many people out there that need your help. You’re the hero of this story. You’re the one at the end of the movie who gets to hold the sword high and make a declaration. What do you offer?
Is your value elusive, as well? If so, that is normal, as I discussed above. The good news is that you have an ally. Most of the people that I work with need an ally who can help them see around corners, help them see their value, and steer their business towards where they need to be.
Growth Simplified is your ally. We are here to shine a very bright light on your superpower so you can get to your goal faster, and with less heartache and pain. Our heart is with small business owners, it’s with executives running, lean and mean, who want to grow sales so they hit their goals. It’s with those who want to build something better for the people they support, love and care for. Running a business is hard. Leading is hard. But maybe just for a little while, it’d be nice to have someone who can make it a little less hard.
